Sport Casual & Jeremy Phillips on A Downtown Affair

Jeremy Phillips and Sport Casual joined me in the studio last Friday for a bit of an around-the-world set. These sorts of shows always open up new territory for the program and I was really happy to hear some fusion covers from Uruguay and new wave covers from Mexico all in the same set. Unfortunately I didn’t heed the advice of our guests, so you’ll have to do a bit of searching to pinpoint the country of origin for most of these. As with recent shows we spilled over for a brief after hours set for your enjoyment!

A Downtown Affair – April 26th

A Downtown Affair - April 26th 2013

A couple Fridays ago we had our last hosts only broadcast. That is at least with both of us in the studio trading off for the duration of the night. Mike’s off to the UK for some serious business, so he rolled out some of his favorite tracks from over the years. Before being afflicted with the disco bug myself, I remember these songs filling the floor at many of our early DJ gigs together, so it was really special to bookend our time on the radio with a heavy dose of classics.

We’ve decided the time has come to bring the weekly broadcast to a close. Sad as we are to shut it down, we’re excited for a summer packed full of special guests, all longstanding friends of the program. Keep an eye on the schedule leading up to our final show on August 30th. Big Thanks to all the listeners and guest DJs who kept us moving for over five years!

FredFades "Ganxstas Don't Rap, They B.O.O.G.I.E. 3"

Mike and I were out of town last Friday, so we took the opportunity to air a new mix from our good friend out of Oslo, FredFades. This is the 3rd in his “Ganxstas Don’t Rap, They B.O.O.G.I.E.” series and it was a real pleasure to give it some play on New York radio. We won’t reveal the track list for now, but feel free to take guesses in the comments section. Thanks Fred for sending this one our way!

James Mulry

OIA-1985-Gerald-Fryers

Here we are with last week’s program, featuring a stellar set from NYC’s own James Mulry. As the mic breaks detail, James’ last appearance on the show was back in 2010 alongside the then crew behind Particularly Random at Tandem (‘PRAT’ lives on and they put on this party the following night). Both then and now, James ran through past ADA playlists to see what tracks have been overlooked and awaiting their first airing on the program. And that creative constraint setup a really fantastic and eclectic mix. Alongside a number of familiar artists are slept on classics, reworks, and the plentiful fruits of successful record digs over the years. Dig in!

Prior to the mic break kicking off is the new single from Benjamin, aka Ben Pirani. This friend of the program has released his first 7″ – Love Is Gonna Let You Down – on Cherries records and we’re hoping to see more of the same in the months to come!
