We were fortunate to have Red Greg in the studio last week as a precursor to his appearance at Love Chant 2. He played a ton of tracks we’d never heard before including some custom pressed 10″s and a Land of Hits version of Cloud One’s “Atmosphere Strut”. Love on the Run, Monk-One & Red Greg didn’t disappoint on Saturday either. It was great to see all the familiar faces while hearing some of these tracks out on a club system!

Love On The Run’s “Love Chant” returns to the basement of Von this Saturday with special guests Monk-One and Red Greg. We had a blast at the first party back in January and I can say without a doubt that you don’t want to miss out on this one. Last week Monk-One of Names You Can Trust and Waxpoetics came by the studio for a special guest set. Fresh off a trip out west, he brought in a nice bag of records and played a few of his own edits as well. The station’s archive is still not quite working properly and we lost my opening set and the first of Monk’s tracks, but I got the rest recorded and it’s here for your enjoyment. Love On The Run has a knack for hooking us up with unexpected guests. Last Friday he brought his friends Osita and Osore in for some sets. Osita started things off with some Nigerian records, some of which were so dusty that he had to run to the bathroom to give them a rinse before playing! Osore followed with some Jazz and Brazilian music to close out the evening. Perfect meditative songs for a rainy Friday evening and a set I will surely listen back to often. Enjoy.

Peter Reyes stopped by the program for special guest set last week. While stocked with a crate of records and a CD book full of edits in preparation for an after-hours set in Newark, Peter managed to tuck in some left-of-center treats for the program. Mike and I played a few tracks toward the end of the night before Peter closed things out with a sleaze set. Afterward, he gave us a brief lesson on the merits of Ibiza sunrise guitar solos. Can’t wait to have him back for a follow up!

We put this promotional mix together one Saturday for WNYU management to hand out while down at SXSW. I’m excited with how it turned out, and it’s quite appropriate for the onset of warm weather. We burned about 80 total. Half got cover designs by Julie Cameron and were sent to TX. The other half got an entirely different cover which we’ll be handing out around town. Hope you enjoy it.

This Friday we were fortunate enough to have Frank of Voodoo Funk on the program for a guest set. He brought by a ton of Nigerian tracks that he collected during his travels in West Africa, some of which will be included on his “Lagos Disco Inferno” compilation, which comes out March 16th on Academy LPs. There are also two parties in NYC promoting the release. More info in our previous post.
