It’s been a while since Mike and I have shared hosting duties and it was nice to do so on the eve of Bionic Boogie. Thanks to everyone that made it out on Saturday for a great night in the fog. As we round the bend to warmer weather, we’ll be sure to dig out some of those summer favorites both on air and off.

We’ve got a very special guest mix coming up this Friday. Danish record collector Flemming Dalum has been gracious enough to put together an exclusive mix for A Downtown Affair. iCrates has a nice two part interview for those unfamiliar with Flemming’s longstanding passion for Italo Disco and you can also turn to his SoundCloud for a taste of what’s in store. Tackleberry and I are delighted to be taking over our good friend Mikie Lixxx’s residency Bionic Boogie while he’s out on the West Coast. Mikie’s been on the program a few times over the past twelve months, and his shindig at Tandem is always blasting off – sometimes with digital fireworks, and always surefire dance floor pleasure. It’s been a few months since we’ve played out so we’ll be pulling records accordingly, and keeping in tune with his uptempo, party-centric vibe.

Come by next Saturday night @ Tandem in Bushwick Brooklyn (236 Troutman Street). It’s a 10pm start and we’ll be going ’til close in the back, with the fog and full club stereo!!!

Last Friday McBoingBoing and Josh Dunn returned to the studio for a guest set. They brought a bunch of house records this time around, but the extended second set branches out with some edits and a few oddball tracks for good measure. We were happy to have JBX of Big City Records on the show once again. This time he came with a heavy lean toward funk and soul. We were lucky to catch a little preview of the Mellow Madness EP, which will be available for the first time soon on Kay Dee records. Some other highlights include The Loving Sister’s spacey gospel cut “Cosmic Consciousness”, Monica Higgin’s “It’s The Real Thing” and Jackie Milton’s “Little By Little”. Steve Shakewell and DJ Duckcomb joined us this past week for an overdue return visit to the program for a guest DJ mix. Together they are Sharegroove, and their eponymous party has been a much beloved NY happening for some time now. The past year they’ve been getting at it at the Douglass lofts in Gowanus, Brooklyn; their jams are not to miss, and to stay in the loop check out their website for details on upcoming parties.

As it turns out, they’ll be playing over at Tandem in Bushwick Brooklyn the night before Tackleberry and I play at resident Mikie Lixxx’s Bionic Boogie party during the last weekend in March (Fri / Sat). Happy to take a breather from the club format, they packed their crate accordingly and put together a nice spread of odd-ball radio themed cuts, original edits and productions (see Trap.Avoid’s ‘Little Countries’!), boogie R&B and full-throttle disco.
