Peter Reyes made a return visit to the program for another unforgettable evening in radioland. This time we’ve kept a little bit of the banter alongside Peter’s set that covered the full two and a half hours of the program. This one’s truly eclectic; the play list gives a sense of some of the territory covered – gospel, R&B, seminal underground disco cuts, and a smattering of Hi-NRG to complement a heavy dose of the rare groove ‘Havana Soul’ sound. We’ve very pleased to add this one to the archives.

Love on the Run sat down with Peter for an interview a few years ago to discuss his development as a DJ and his experience growing up in the days of record pools, a healthy club culture, and the prolific release of much of the music heard on this program – well worth the read!

Mike and I decided to put together a little bundle of tracks for Valentine’s Day. Most of the songs played each week on A Downtown Affair are love songs in one way or another, but this is a chance for a us to slow it down a touch and show off the tender side of Let’s Get Serious. Enjoy!

We had the pleasure of bringing Mikie Lixxx back on the program just before he heads off for the West Coast. Mikie’s held down Bionic Boogie at Tandem for the last year and though he’s putting it aside for the winter, he plans on reviving the monthly in the spring. Here we go with the guest set by Snack & C’mish, a Brooklyn based DJ and production duo with a supreme and expansive taste for dance music of all sorts. We had them join us for our now defunct Light Up the Night party during one of the few snowy NY nights in 2010, and they happened to come through the studio on similar circumstances this January. They’re always amazing me with the gnarly 12″ pic sleeve imports from the mid-80s that sound WAY cooler than the cover lead me to believe; they brought quite a few of these tunes along, and also dropped a few exclusive originals & edits along with some stunning re-issued material that’s now debuted on the program. Tackleberry and I keep the vibe instilled by their set, and still find a few opportunities to indulge. Catch Snack & C’mish over at Tandem at their monthly MAGNUM party.
