Tackleberry & Mike Mcgill back at Club Love!

Tackleberry and Mike Mcgill are back at Club Love for another night of late hour discotized selections. We’ll be playing at 2am, following A Downtown Affair. A few guest list spots are available…. email ada@wnyu.org to get on! Otherwise it’s $5 at the door.

Josh Dunn & Bennett4$enate’s Secret Rendezvous

Some heavy hitters stopped by A Downtown Affair for a special night of sensual music making last Friday. Josh took us on a late night drive through Detroit & Chicago’s take on uptempo R&B during the latter half of the ’80s, before Bennett put the kids to sleep and showed us the more domestic, urbane side of an adult contemporary dance floor. Tackleberry & Mike McGill rounded it out with selections of offbeat ballads and fireside grooves.

Be sure to check out Josh Dunn over at 100 Limousines. Classy music, with the forthcoming mix ‘Tennis Court Place’ coming at ya real soon. Serious tip only!

Bennett’s supremely personal mix Wine Coolers is coming to this very domain shortly…

Up next on ADA, a special mix coming from Spankie Hazard from Japan!

Josh Dunn & Bennett4$enate guest mix

josh_dunn-reaching_out_across-cover

Tonight on A Downtown Affair Josh Dunn and Bennett4$enate return for a demanding mix of 80′s obscurities inspired by Josh’s own Reaching Out. This mix has been in heavy rotation since Foreal People visited the show back in November. Suspend disbelief and join us for a night of R&B oddities. Fridays at 10:30pm on 89.1 FM & wnyu.org

Daniel Auster’s ADA Guest Set

Daniel Auster guest DJs on A Downtown Affair, March 13th, 2009.
Another stellar set from one of the good peoples over at A1 Records! The studio was giving us a little bit of trouble, so there are a few dropouts and needle skips, but that’s what you get when you’re playing wax aged 25+ years, passed down from halcyon era of New York dance music, no?

Guest Daniel Auster plays on ADA this Friday!

Continuing the trend of welcoming selectors from one of our favorite shops in town, DJ Daniel Auster will be guest DJing on the program this Friday night. Brooklyn born-and-bred, Daniel has been has been on the dance music scene since the early nineties, playing music across a variety of genres before recently posting up at A1. We can’t say enough how much we enjoyed Stewart’s guest mix, and we’re equally excited to have Daniel join us for a night of disco selections. Tune in Friday night at 10:30pm.

We’ve also been a bit delayed on posting archived recordings. Here is the show the Alex and I played on February 27th. Plenty of new boogie records were in the crate that night, and I would feel remiss if I did not share this on the site. There are some great records in there, Rufus & Chaka’s beautiful, upbeat single “Do You Love What You Feel” backs up Chaka’s massive vocals with heavy strings and synth. An excellent Quincy Jones production. Also included are nice doses of girlie R&B/boogie; Latoya Jackson, Pamela Joy, Stephanie Mills all make appearances. Also got to credit Bennett for turning me onto Billy Ocean’s “Nights” a couple months back at a Serious Business gig. There’s something to be said about being turned on to R&B charting records 25+ years after the fact. The awe and infatuation doesn’t seem to fade if the music stands the test of time. Just one of them nights…
